When Jessica got married, she wanted to start planning to have a family.
Jessica loved teaching kids. Growing up, she had teachers who inspired her and challenged her to read, learn, and study. She wanted to do the same thing with her students.
"My students are great," Jessica said. "It's cool to see when they finally learn and understand something—when it finally clicks for them. It's fun to be a part of that."
When Jessica started teaching at Robinson Elementary, the school did not have a strong reading program or even a library. Many students were reading well below their age range.
"It was pretty bleak," Jessica said. "Several students struggled to even look at a book."
After she was unable to get funding for a school library, Jessica took it upon herself to host a book drive for the school and was able to collect more than 2,000 books. Then she developed a reading program for her students that not only met state requirements but exceeded them.
Because she loved kids so much, she was excited to one day be a mom.
